OCC Reports Improved Mortgage Performance in Third Quarter of 2016

OCC Reports Bank Trading Revenue Fell in the Third Quarter 2016

Agency: | OCC | Highlights: | The OCC released its Quarterly Report on Bank Trading and Derivatives Activities. The report showed that revenue fell from $7 billion the previous quarter to $6.4 billion in the third quarter. The report also showed trading risk exposure and credit exposure from derivatives both declined. The notional amount of derivatives held by insured US Commercial Banks declined by nearly 6.5%, which is attributed to trade compression. The report is available on the OCC’s website. |

Industrial and Commercial Metals: Final Rule

Agency: | OCC | Highlights: | The OCC issued a final rule prohibiting national banks and federal savings associations from dealing and investing in industrial or commercial metals. The final rule includes metal in a physical form suited for commercial or industrial uses. Banks with existing holdings of metal must divest as soon as reasonably practical, but no later than five years. The final rule supersedes a previous OCC interpretation which allowed for banks to trade copper. |
